valoise: (festivids)
I finally located a high quality source for one of my offered fandoms and that is the one I've matched on! Lots of watching and note taking in order for this weekend as I plan it out. I've got a tentative song choice and a couple of different directions I could go.

Even better, I had a strong idea for a vid for another source and after going through the Dear Festividder letters I found someone who wanted JUST THIS VID! I'm excited! Not I've just got to get started.

Before I get bossy with my what I want, let me say Thank you!! I'm looking forward to the wonderful vid that you're going to make for me. I'm not going to give you specific songs for my choices; if you're anything like me you need to vid to music that speaks to you, not to a song that I like. I've got fairly eclectic taste in music, from 1930s big band to Celtic punk, I like a range of music, although I'm pretty lukewarm to modern pop and bland country. Funny songs make me very happy and since most of my requests lean heavy toward humor, cracky vids are fine.

Now, on to the fandoms. )

I've been thinking about VVC and how it's left me with new creative ideas bubbling around in my head. Last year two Festivids were made for Maru, the cat who has a series of videos up on Youtube. Got me thinking about some of the web series I've been watching, mostly The Hunted and The Daly Show and the great post-apocolyptic 10,000 Days. I want to vid them all and, if Festivids is goint to happen this year, to nominate them for Festivids, too. The nomination period for Festivids started in September last year, so if it's happening again I guess we should hear something soon.

Before I head over to check out the [livejournal.com profile] festivids reveal, here's my lovingly crafted vid for [livejournal.com profile] mithborien who wanted a kickass Victoria vid from Red. I wanted to contrast her cool efficiency to the over-the-top guys on the team of retired agents. I loved the Etta James song, but edited it down a bit to fit my needs. Tragically, Etta James died recently, so in a way, this is a kind of tribute to her, too.

As I wrap my [livejournal.com profile] festivids recs, I've just got to say that were lots of good vids that I didn't rec, please go and root around for yourself. Everyone loves something different and Festivids has something for everyone.

I'm slowly making my way through the list (I'm up 'R'), but probably won't have time to watch much more until Sunday. In the meantime, here are a few more that I really liked. It's amazing, really, how many vids I've liked from shows or movies I haven't seen. In this batch, for instance, there's The Middleman (which is now on my Netflix queue) and Miranda. After watching the Remington Steele and Quantum Leap vids I'm feeling all nostalgic and probably going to track those down to watch, too.

And Mulan, I always meant to watch Mulan. Now I'm thinking of buying it, watching it and passing it along to the granddaughters. Better Mulan than a simpering Disney princess for a role model.

Do It Like a Dude The Middleman

Walking on Sunshine Miranda

Ain’t No Other Man Mulan

Bloom in Adversity Mulan

Poor, Poor Pitiful Me Mythbusters

Coming Home The Quantum Leap

In Spite of Ourselves Raising Hope

More vids, so many more vids, I'll take a stab at a few more recs starting with another Red vid.

Me Against the Music RED
A Butterfly Dreaming The Fall
Take to the Skyl The Fifth Element
Ballroom Blitz Ghostbusters

We got the beat Hello Dolly
Love Reign O'er Me Immortal Beloved
Doomsday Independence Day
Bells, Books and Candles Ladyhawke
Chidren's Work Life

Yes, these last two are for that famous star of YouTube - Maru the Cat. Two, count 'em, two purrrrrrfect kitty cat vids.

There are soo many vids in Festivids this year (198!) that I’m going to spread out my recs over severals days. Two great things about [livejournal.com profile] festivids are:

First, you don’t know who made any of the vids so you go into it with no preconceived ideas. I know I’m guilty of skipping a vid if the vidder’s name is unfamiliar but here the playing field has been leveled.

Second, because it is a small fandoms vidding event it’s a great place to discover new shows and movies that you’ve never seen. Vids can be great recruiting vehicles, I never would have tracked down Slings and Arrows, for instance, if I hadn’t seen some great vids for the show.

So now, here’s the recs so far starting with the Red vid made just for me that captures the sweet and deadly Victoria from Reds.

I'm anxiously waiting for my [livejournal.com profile] festivids assignment, but while I wait I'd like to thank my vidder. I'm already so happy that you'll be taking the time to make a vid just for me.

Dear Festividder, )

I've made my nominations for [livejournal.com profile] festivids but I might add some more later. So far at least these are the shows and movies I'd like to vid or have vidded for me:

Red - I'd probably concentrate on Helen Mirren's character. I've been brainstorming this for a while but haven't found the perfect song yet. I'd love to see the middle-age action hero theme explored, too.

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. - there's a lot of potential here, I've only made one vid for the fandom. Hey, what about a vid for Comet, Brisco's horse?

Endgame - I loved this short-lived series and am already sort of plotting out a chess-themed vid, but there's a lot of very interesting visual stuff here.

Good Eats - Why, oh why, is there no cracky-good vid for this show?

Highlander: The Raven - Amanda needs more vids of her own.

Yojimbo - This is one of the movies that made the anti-hero a movie staple. Even without the subtitles, Mifune is visually fantastic.

Seven Samurai - the best buddy action movie ever. I have no idea what I'd vid for it, but it's so great.

Black Books - This is one I'd probably not try to vid myself, but ask to have vidded for me.

This was my first year to participate in [livejournal.com profile] festivids and I had a great time. [livejournal.com profile] giandujakiss requested a Queen of Swords vid that shipped the Queen and Robert Helm and it was fun to make.

My gift was the fantastic Riverworld vid I posted about earlier and now I know that it was made for me by [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe. If you havent' seen it, please go and watch. I know the miniseries was a bit uneven, but Tamoe was such a fantastic character, I wanted a vid that would showcase her strength.
Inyodo really delivers.

I haven't watched all 174 (174!!) vids but have tried to watch all of those from fandoms I like. One thing I found just a teeny bit distressing - there were two vids using a song that I'm using for a vid that 3/4 of the way through a rough draft. The fandoms are very different, so I'll keep working on it but damn, I wanted to be the first to use that song.

Anyway, on the recs:

Life During Wartime Lone Gunmen

The Rules of Parenting Modern Family

The Senorita and the Doctor Queen of Swords

Inyodo Riverworld - Made for ME!!

All Star Sanctuary

Resistance Star Trek, the Next Generation

Lullabye Star Trek, the Next Generation

Monsters Lead Such Interesting Lives Sweeney Todd

Truth is in the Dirt V (2009)

I couldn't help but rec the Riverworld vid again. When I asked for something from that show I wanted the focus to be on Tamoe. You know, if the producers of the miniseries felt they had to concentrate on an original character not in the books, they would have done far better to put the focus on her!

I asked for a vid featuring the swordswoman and samurai Tamoe Gozen in Riverworld.

Look at it!! It's fantastic!!

Inyodo

I can't wait to find out who made it so I can thank the vidder properly!

I've finished and submitted my Festivid vid and really, really hope the recipient likes it.  Now, I wonder who's making my vid?  Wonder which fandom they're using?

I got my Festvid assignment. Mental wheels are turning, ideas are percolating. I'll be rewatching some tasting source and ripping dvds this weekend!

Wow, I am so looking forward to Festivids this year. Here's what would make me very happy:

Good Eats [TV] The wackiness that Alton Brown brings to food science and cooking is just screaming out for a vid. I have a weird craving for a Good Eats vid to the Be Our Guest song from Beauty and the Beast, but Weird Science would also be great.

Highlander: The Raven [TV] Amanda taking heads and kicking ass, that's what I'd love. Sappy Nick/Amanda romance, not so much.

Lie to Me [TV] I love the way this show showcases the unspoken things ways in which we communicate out emotions and with others.

Queen of Swords [TV] Col. Montoya/Dr Helm slash would warm my heart.

Riverworld - 2010 [TV] SAFETY I'd love a vid that focused on Tamoe, the female samurai, but Burton and Sam Clemens also rock.

Sanctuary [TV] For me it's all about Helen Magnus

Seven Samurai [Movie] One of my alltime favorite movies, each one of the samurai has such a wonderfully developed character, a vid about the comradeship that brings and holds them together would be magnificent.

Festivids!

Nominations are open for Festivids. I think I'm going to sign up this year, could be fun. From the previously nominated list, I nominated:

1. The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
2. Flight of the Conchords
3. Highlander: The Raven
4. Queen of Swords

I also submitted a new fandom:
5. Seven Samurai

All of these are things I'd like to vid for. I meant to also nominate Riverworld (2010), but I hit submit too soon. I hope someone submits it, I actually have some ideas for vids that I'd like to see from that.

Update: I've added Riverworld now. Also, haven't seen anyone nominating Slings and Arrows yet, so I've nominated that too.
