In some ways VidUKon has filled the hole left by the death of Vividcon - a plethora of vidshows, a scattering of how-to panels, and hanging out with fellow vid fans & makers (although not quite the same interaction on Discord as in the hotel lobby or con suite). I've had vids at VidUKon for the past several years (usually in themed vid shows, occasionally in premieres). This year I was poking through my old vids for something to submit for Vidder's Choice. I chose my old reframing of Show White as the evil character.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the convention book and usb with premieres vids arrives. The convention was last weekend in Cardiff and here is the US my package of con goodies has already arrived.

I've been generally frustrated with online con attendance lately, but I found myself really enjoying the online VidUKon experience this month. The Premieres were excellent, the panels I attended went really well and I enjoyed the Frankenvid at the end. I've had vids in themed vidshows for three VidUKons and while it's unlikely that I'd ever be able to attend the con in person, but I think next year I'd like to participate a bit more, sending a premiering vid, offering to do a themed vidshow (I've got a couple of ideas & tentative playlists), etc.

VidUKon really scratches that itch left by the death of Vividcon.

I had an 11-year old vid in a vidshow: Live and Let Die (a Peter Wingfield multi) in the In the Spotlight show that focused on single actor focused vids.

Although I'll probably always be sporadic in posting to DW, I'd like to start posting con reports again. Last weekend I had a virtual membership to the wonderful [community profile] vidukon_cardiff and surprisingly found the package of convention swag in my mail a couple of days ago. That was really fast UK to US mail service. convention swag I watched the Vidding Narrative panel, which was great and some of the Vidder's Choice vidshow on Friday and both were great. For the rest of the weekend I only managed the 2012 Retrospective and Visual Feast vidshows due to some plans to spend time with family, but the swag contained a thumb drive with premieres vids and I plan to watch them as time permits. I had a vid from Tampopo that I made for the 2020 [community profile] vexercises in the Visual Feast show.
