Busy week with a soft, cuddly ending
May. 27th, 2007 05:06 pmThe Archival Access Symposium finally happened this week and it was a great success. So we only had 42 people registered, but since this was a new kind of event for us at work, that was plenty. It all started a little over a year ago when there were hints that there might not be enough travel money in our '07 budget for me to go the the regional archives conference. Not acceptable since interating with colleagues is a vital part of my job, it's even been incorporated into the critical elements on my annual performance evaluation.
So I ran an idea by my boss and then contacted the Kansas City Area Archivists with the idea of a one day symposium to be held here in Abilene at the Eisenhower Library. I've presented at conferences, moderated panels, and served on program committees but I never tried to be a one-person program committee before. Planning, planning and more planning and a really good liaison on the KCAA education committee and it came off well.
So, it was an extremely busy week, but I didn't get stressed. Not even on the day of the event. A lot of that has to do with good planning, but I think the tai chi has had an effect as well.
And now for the warm and fuzzy ending - a friend of mine raises alpacas and she invited me to come look at some of the babies. Sooo very cute.
