There are two Highlander fanfilms coming soon, either streaming or digital downloads. I guess if Davis-Panzer are going to drag their feet on moving forward with the franchise, fans will step up and make their own.

Big Hero 6

I've finished my Festivids assignment and I hope the recipient loves it as much as I loved making it. Now I'm left with more vidding energy but no project I want to work on. I've looked through the list of Festivids signups but didn't see anything that inspired me to make a treat.

I think what I really want to vid is Big Hero 6, which I just saw a few days ago. Great balance of characters, beautifully conceived universe, fantastic message of caring, and homage to applied science as a good thing - I want to watch this with my granddaughters and I really want to vid it. But I'm going to wait until good quality source is legitimately available. In the meantime, I'm going to have this in my backbrain as I listen to music, looking for just the right song.

I've got a complete first draft of my Festivids asignment -it came together really quickly once I started laying clips down on the timeline - now I need to let it rest for awhile. I like to look at it with fresh eyes before I start thinking about effects or edits. Since I never expected to be done this early, maybe I'll start thinking about treats or pinch hits.

Dear Festividder, before I say anything else let me start with thia: Thank you! That someone else shares my obscure fannish loves is so wonderful.

Song choice I'll leave totally up to you. I've got fairly broad taste in music and love finding new artists and songs, so even if you use something I've never heard of, I'll be happy. Also, if you vid like I do, vidding inspiration is so tied up in song choice that I would hate to muddle you're creative process.

Here's my wish list.

3rd Rock from the Sun
I'd absolutely love a vid focusing on Sally or Tommy or anything, really, highlighting the sheer insanity of the show.

Good Eats
This is my “Please, Santa, bring me a pony” Festivids request. Every year I ask for a Good Eats vid. And every year I do not get one, just like Santa's lifelong failure to bring me my beautiful pony. At this point I’d love any vid at all with Alton Brown and his puppets and his props and his food.

Europa Report
I'm not sure what kind of vid I want for this movie, but I can tell what I liked about it. I am an absolute sucker for stories of space exploration, for examining what it takes to live together in the enclosed space of a ship, for the wonder and terror of the unknown.

Gravity
Ryan Stone’s sheer determination to keep struggling against the seemingly hopeless situation and her drive to survive made me love her and and the movie so much.

Endgame
A vid all about Arkady Balagan, his arrogance and flaws and quirky approach to helping those who come to him would make be very, very happy.

War of the Worlds: Goliath
Any vid at all for this movie would be wonderful, but I particularly like the dieselpunk atmosphere and the way the Eric Wells and his team pull together to kick Martian ass. And Teddy Roosevelt! A kick-ass Teddy Roosevelt vid would be sweet, too.

Queen of Swords
Colonel Luis Montoya makes my heart go pitty-pat. Add a side helping of Dr. Helm and I’d be even more delighted.

Festivids

Nominations should begin this month for [community profile] festivids so I've been making a tentative mental list of fandoms to request and fandoms to offer. Now I've got the ideal song for a particular source and, damn, I've got no guarantees that anyone's even going to request it. Even so, I'm going to start checking the best way to acquire source for this.

I do love [community profile] festivids!

I'm sad to be missing Vividcon this year, but that will probably only last until my plane takes off Monday on the way to Worldcon in London . It is a consolation to know that with the supporting membership my dvds of vids will be waiting for me when I get back. And I'll try and watch some of the livestreaming vid shows, too, if I have time this weekend.

I did make a Sleepy Hollow vid for Club Vivid. I love John Cho's poor, undead, lovesick Andy Brooks and wanted to give him his own little vid of unrequited love.

In a little over a week I pack my bags and head off to London for Loncon3, this year's Worldcon. Only one month left of summer and a lot of that will be eaten up with travel and there's so much that I wanted to get done.

For instance, the con report I kept putting off for the Peter Wingfield Fan Club Manchester Road Trip. Is it weird to keep having conventions for an actor who doesn't act anymore? Maybe, but it's a great chance to get together with friends and Peter still likes it, so sure, as long as it will fit into his schedule I bet we will keep doing them. Several times during the convention Peter kept making references to next time, so maybe in a couple of years when he's doing his residency we can sneak in another one.

At this con Valentine Pelka joined us and read passages from a novel he's working on. Writer Adam Whitlach is putting the final touches on a novelization of War of the World: Goliath, an animiated film in which Peter voices the lead. He and Peter read a bit of it and it sounds very good. We also had Skype calls with Mark Deklin (Peter's co-star from Riverworld, the club has sort of adopted him) and Eric Small who is the writer/producer/director of the 10,000 Days, a web series in which Peter played a pivotal role. There was so much going on, but in lieu of a real con report, I'll just leave this here.

I would like try to take pictures and write brief con reports from London, but what will probably happen is a few camera shots posted to Facebook and more detailed stuff when I get back.

I had planned on submitting this as a nonattending premiere vid at Vividcon, but I'll just go ahead and post it now, instead.

Title: Fear and Delight
Music: The Correspondents
Lyrics after the vid.

Summary: Love and swords, always a dangerous combination.

Oh but I know you'll cause me grief
Close friends of mine are in disbelief
As they can see what's underneath
Fluttering lashes red lips and pearly white teeth...
I don't show it but I quiver whenever you come near
and I cannot decipher between the thrill and the fear,
I want to stop but I like it too much to let it stop here,
It's wrong but I want you tonight

It was of my own volition but I fell in deep
by running the distance I'd been advised to keep
I trot to the wolf as a doting sheep
it's wrong but I want you tonight

Fear and Delight,
all the way through the night
with a little derring-do I'll fall in love with you

Fear and Delight,
all the way through the night
with a little derring-do I'll fall in love with you

I'm a little boy who's going to be getting his fingers burnt
but I can see the lesson's got to got to got to be learnt
they say that boys have been destroyed but they weren't
It's wrong but I want you tonight

In any case my friends it's too late
like a moth to light like a beast to bate
and I know the black widow eat it's mate
It's wrong but I want you tonight

Fear and Delight,
all the way through the night
with a little derring-do I'll fall in love with you

Fear and Delight,
all the way through the night
with a little derring-do I'll fall in love with you

I've had to bow out of Britishfest, but I should be posting con reports for the little PWFC con in Manchester, New Hampshire in June and for Loncon3 in August. I've actually offered to be on panels at Loncon3 relating to vidding and other fan remix activities and they followed up by asking me for best times and so forth, so it looks like that's a go. I also offered to put together an sf-themed vidshow, but haven't heard back on that.

Even though I've got two vids for Vividcon, I won't be making this year. Too many cons and not enough time or money. I've got a vid plotted out for Sleepy Hollow that I hope to get done before the new season starts, but we'll see.

The two non-convention, non-vidding fannish things I really want to do this summer are to plunge into tumblr and to add my vids to AO3. I know that's where I usually go these days to prowl for fanfic and, sometimes, vids, so it just makes sense. So far I only have a couple up,
Stuff is Way , the Memento vid I premiered last year at VVC, and I'm British , the Sleepy Hollow vid I did for Festivids this year.

tumblr

I've been pretty meh about dw and lj lately, mostly just use them as a placeholder for storing links for vids or writing about vids. I've never used the more social aspects of either one and I'm slowly coming around to using AO3 as a place to hold the vids. That just leaves one other main use for lj, which was posting con reports. Over the next year I'll be attending PWFC , British Fest , Loncon3 , and Gallifrey One, as well as having some vids premiering at Vividcon, so I've been thinking about how I want to do my con reports in the future.

I'm currently in the process of creating a tumblr for all of these things. The older con reports will still be up on lj, but I'm seriously considering moving to tumblr for new content from here on out.

There's two low points in vidding for me. The first is clipping, clipping, clipping - it just feels like I'm never going to get done with it. The second low point comes around midway through when it doesn't seem like it's going to work or that there are going to be enough clips to tell the story. Add to that the fact the the Club Vivid due date comes right in the middle of a long professional conference and there was a point where I was not going to get it done.

Somehow over the past couple of days, everything started to fit neatly in place and, wow, I love the song more and more and it's really going to work. Now I just need to figure out how to do the opening credits like I want, but I do think it will get done.

Which is good, because I have a new earworm going round and round, whispering that I finally may need to make a Duncan/Methos slash vid. I honestly never thought I wanted to make another Highlander vid, but after the CVV vid is done, I just might. I must be the Highlander vidder who has created a D/M slash, but maybe I was just waiting for the perfect song.

Reveals are up, and I now know that sabinetzin made the wonderful the Monty Python vid Banging Them Together

I made two vids this year: I’m British, a Sleepy Hollow vid for sabaceanbabe

and Madness, a Warm Bodies vid for Dayln

It's going to take me a while to get through all the vids, but one thing I've noted in watching vids and reading everyone's vid squee is just how wonderful Festivids is. Of course there's all the small fandoms that deserve a little more recognition. But there's also the sheer variety of vids; there's literally something for everyone. You like your vids sweet and schmoopy, horror-movie creepy, girl powery - Festivids has something for you. Costume dramas, cop shows, sf, Bollywood, urban fantasy, vintage black-and-white movies and more, all vidded.

On to my latest batch of recs.

Stop Dragging My Heart Around
(Indiana Jones)
All Star (Lego Lord of the Rings)
9 to 5 (Lego Star Wars)
Drop (Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou)
A Night Like This Marx Brothers movies)
Sex Yeah (Masters of Sex)
Sexyback (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries)
The Edge of Glory (Mulan)
Dirtee Disco (The Muppet Show)
valoise: (Default)
Just thought I’d leave a few recs here from Day 1 of Festivids viewing. There’s over 200 vids and I’ll at least take a peek at each of them. Today, these are the vids that moved me and made laugh or cry or love the source all over again.

Banging Them Together (Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
Feelling Good (Agents of Shield)
Run the World (Agents of Shield)
How Does it Feel (Almost Famous)
Who Are You, Defenders of the Universe (The Americans)
Ready for the Storm (Apollo 13)
This Could All be Yours (Big)
Learn to Fly (Brave)
Adam Raised a Cain (Caprica)
Keep Breathing (Chariots of Fire)
Living Backwards (The Ghost and Mrs. Muir)
221B And A Half (The Great Mouse Detective)
What Sharp Teeth You Have (Hanna)
Do My Thing (The Heat)
Flight Path (How to Train Your Dragon)

It's clearly going to take me a while to get through this list. Oh, how I suffer :-)

Festivids

[community profile] festivids is live and I'm just going to make a pot of coffee and sink into vids for the rest of the day.

I got a wonderful, absurd and funny gift - everything a vid for Monty Python and Holy Grail should be! I'll be posting links and recs after reveals.
valoise: (Default)
I've finished my Festivids assignment and it looks like I might actually finish a second that will either be a treat for someone or, possibly, a pinch hit if one comes up that includes this particular fandom.

The end of next June I'm going to be going to to Britishfest in Omaha. It looks like a lot of fun for fans of Brtish tv, movies and other media. I've volunteered to do a vidshow so I'm compiling a list of vids to consider. I'm also considering cosplay. If I can figure out how to get the feet done, I might just try for a lady hobbit.
valoise: (Default)
I've got a review article to write for a newsletter, holiday plans to make, a whole list of movies I want to watch and the TBR book pile keeps growing, but damn I'm on a roll with [community profile] festivids. The vid for my assignment is going great and in listening to some new music this morning an idea for a treat just dropped into my lap. Don't know if I'll have time, but damn I'll try.
valoise: (Default)
I've got my Festivids assignment and I am so in the vidding groove right now. Source acquired and clipped, audio track laid in and edited and I've got a mental outline of how it will all go down. If things go this smoothly, maybe I'll have time to make a treat for someone, too. There's a couple of ideas percolating.
valoise: (Default)
Just when I think I've made my last Highlander vid, new ideas pop into my head. Last spring I was listening to the new album by Professor Elemental and this song jumped out at me as perfect for an Amanda-chasing-Duncan vid. I know, the singer is a man and the POV is for a woman, but it works for me. Hope it works for you, too.

I'd originally thought I might get this done for Vividcon, but that didn't work. Then I wanted to squeeze this in before Festivids kicked off, but it didn't look like that was going to happen, either. Congress intervened by closing down the government fr 16 days. Since I was one of those furloughed Federal workers, I used some of that time to make this vid. [personal profile] killabeez stepped in with a quick beta and some good HL insights. So, I present to you:
