I've been thinking about meditation and exercise lately and looking into finding a qi gong or tai chi class. Also like the idea of walking meditation, but don't know of a labyrinth anywhere near and that would be the ideal thing for that.

So, I did find a tai chi teacher and signed up for a month long class, two nights a week in Salina, which is about a half hour away. Tonight was the first class, and as luck would have it, I'm in the grips of a cold. I stayed home from work but went to the class anyway. The class members ranged in age from the 30s to 70s and since it was a beginner's class the movements were easy. But the breathing - youch! In and out and in and out, all that deep breathing really loosened things up. On the way home my cold medicine had really worn off and I was coughing all the way.

But the class was good. The teacher is from Malaysia and reminds me of a student worker I had working for me for a while at UALR. I liked that she spent time talking about feeling the chi during the first session and mentioning other aspects of balance in life. In case anyone there was just coming for some light exercise they will certainly get that. But I think I'll find what I am looking for, too.
