Perils of homeownership

I just realized that my lj hadn't been updated since I embarked on the adventure of homeownership. In August 2005 I bought and moved into my first house. It's a four-square house circa 1900-1905. Although the structural bits were in good condition, the decor was stuck in the 1960's and 1970's. That was okay, I thought, I can surely strip wallpaper and paint.

Oh, how naive. The first weekend before I moved in I managed to mangle my fingers in between the upper and lower sash of the kitchen windows. After a trip to the ER and few days to recover I proceeded to work on the living room and dining room and found out that the wallpaper had been improperly applied and was going to be a real bugger to get off. Now I have resigned myself to getting about 1-2 rooms a year completed. The advantage is that it is going to definitely be a pay-as-I-go proposition. The disadvantage is going to be putting up with the truly revolting study and kitchen for much longer than I thought.

I'm almost ready to paint the dining room and will post before and after pictures. Meanwhile, here is my diamond in the rough.
